Earthquake hits Colorado near New Mexico border overnight

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck southern Colorado near the New Mexico border late on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The epicenter of the quake, with a relatively shallow depth of 2.5 miles, was located 180 miles south of Denver and 20 miles northwest of Raton, New Mexico. It hit at 11:46 p.m. local time.
