_ Texas is in its most severe one-year drought on record.

_ The drought is the second-worst on record, behind only a dry spell that lasted for most of the 1950s.

_ During its typically wettest months, April and May, the state got no significant rainfall.

_ Texas would need more than 4.5 inches of rain in the next two months to avoid breaking the 1956 record for driest 12 consecutive months.

_ Texas had its hottest June on record, and it was the fifth warmest month overall.

_ July was the warmest month ever recorded for Texas, with data going back to 1895.

_ A record 248 of the state's 254 counties are under burn bans.
