A Georgia medical examiner says the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference died of blunt force trauma to the head after falling down stairs at his Atlanta home.
A spokesman for the Fulton County medical examiner's office said Friday that the Rev. Howard Creecy Jr.'s death last month is listed as an accident. The 57-year-old minister died July 28.
Authorities are unsure what caused Creecy to fall down the stairs.
Creecy, pastor of The Olivet Church in Fayette County, was elected SCLC president in January after the position was declined by Bernice King, daughter of the organization's co-founder, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Creecy was a native of Alabama.
Creecy was the chaplain for Fulton County for nearly 30 years, presiding over pauper's burials for the county.
