An Ohio girl kidnapped by a man who killed her mother, her brother and a family friend says a hot air balloon festival organized to help victims of violent crimes is "just a positive thing to do."
The Lancaster Eagle-Gazette newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/qWted7) 14-year-old Sarah Maynard attended the festival Friday at the Fairfield County Airport in central Ohio. Proceeds go to a memorial fund named after her mother, Tina Herrmann, and 11-year-old brother, Kody Maynard.
Herrmann, Kody and Stephanie Sprang were killed at Herrmann's home near Mount Vernon in November. Their body parts were stuffed in a hollowed-out tree. An unemployed tree-cutter was sentenced to life in prison without parole in the deaths.
Sarah's father, Larry Maynard, helped plan the festival. He says his daughter remains happy-go-lucky and loves life.
