23-member committee to search for UA president

The Arizona Board of Regents has appointed a 23-member committee for a national search for a new University of Arizona president.

The board announced the appointment Friday. Committee members are on the board themselves or are mostly involved in academics.

Other members include Tohono O'odham Nation Chairman Ned Norris, Jr., and Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal.

Regent Rick Myers says the board is looking for a president who is a visionary and has exceptional leadership skills.

UA President Robert Shelton resigned from the university in June and was named the new executive director of the Fiesta Bowl. He had been president since July 2006.

Eugene Sander is acting as the university's president and likely will serve for about a year while the national search is conducted. Sander is Vice Provost and Dean of the university's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
