Ex-attorney gets 12 years in old child porn case

An ex-attorney convicted on child pornography charges in a case involving nude pictures he kept from his mid-1970s affair with his teenage sister-in-law has had no luck at a resentencing _ he again got 12 years in federal prison.

Sixty-seven-year-old Gary Peel received a new sentence Monday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis after prosecutors threw out an obstruction-of-justice charge. A Chicago-based appeals court had thrown out Peel's previous punishment and ordered him resentenced, questioning whether he had been convicted of obstruction and fraud charges that were too similar.

Peel got the same sentence in 2007.

The child pornography charges came after Peel tried to blackmail his ex-wife into reopening their divorce settlement with pictures he took of her then-16-year-old sister in 1974. She went to the police.
