Family and friends say the three young people swept over a waterfall at Yosemite National Park were role models who did not normally take risks.
Tony Badal, father of 21-year-old victim Ramina Badal, supported his wife Virginia Wednesday evening as both walked shakily and sobbing into an Assyrian prayer vigil at St. George's Church in Ceres.
Badal, 22-year-old Hormiz David and 27-year-old Ninos Yacoub fell into the Merced River above Vernal Falls and were swept to their presumed deaths while posing for a photograph inside the safety barricade.
Their priest, Father Genard Lazar, was on the church group outing with them when they died, said family friend Romina Kiryakous, who has been with the family since the tragedy.
Bishop Mar Awa Royel said he prayed the bodies would be quickly recovered.
