Here are the 16 members of the board of News Corp., listed with their tenure on the board, current jobs, highlights of past jobs and pay. Each director who is not a named News Corp. executive is paid a cash retainer of $100,000 a year and receives deferred stock awards of $120,000. Extra pay is granted for work on board committees.

_ Rupert Murdoch: Director since 1979. CEO of News Corp. since 1979 and chairman since 1991.

_ James Murdoch: Director since 2007. Chairman and CEO of News Corp., Europe and Asia, since 2007. Has worked in variety of executive roles at News Corp. since 2000. Son of Rupert Murdoch.

_ Lachlan Murdoch: Director since 1996. Director of Illyria Pty Ltd, a private investment company, since 2005. Worked in a variety of executive roles at News Corp. from 2000 to 2007. Son of Rupert Murdoch.

_ Chase Carey: Director since 2009. President, chief operating officer and deputy board chairman. Has worked at News Corp. since 1988.

_ David DeVoe: Director since 1990. Chief financial officer since 1990.

_ Joel Klein: Director since 2010. Executive vice president at News Corp. since 2010. Chancellor of New York City schools, 2002-2010.

_ Arthur Siskind: Director since 1991. Senior adviser to chairman since 2005. Group general counsel, 1991-2005.

_ Jose Maria Aznar: Director since 2006. President of Spain, 1996-2004. President of the Foundation for Social Studies and Analysis, 1989-present.

_ Natalie Bancroft: Director since 2007. Joined board after News Corp. bought Dow Jones & Co., which was controlled by the Bancroft family. Bancroft is a professionally trained opera singer with no known business experience.

_ Peter Barnes: Director since 2004. Chairman of Ansell Limited, which makes latex products for medical and other industries. Former executive with Philip Morris International Inc.

_ Kenneth Cowley: Director since 1979. Executive chairman of RM Williams Holdings PTY Ltd., an Australian clothing company. Senior executive at News Corp., 1964-1997, was considered one of Murdoch's most trusted Australian lieutenants.

_ Viet Dinh: Director since 2004. Professor of law at Georgetown University and principal of Bancroft Associates PLLC, a law and public policy consulting firm.

_ Sir Roderick Eddington: Director since 1999. Non-executive chairman for Australia and New Zealand at JPMorgan Chase since 2006. Former CEO of British Airways. Former chairman of Ansett Airlines, an Australian airline that Murdoch had a stake.

_ Andrew S.B. Knight: Director since 1991. Chairman of J. Rothschild Capital Management Ltd since 2008. Former chairman of News International, a subsidiary of News Corp., and considered a close confidant of Murdoch.

_ Thomas Perkins: Director since 1996. Partner at Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, a venture capital company, since 1972.

_ John Thornton: Director since 2004. Director of global leadership at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management in Beijing since 2003. Director and non-executive chairman of HSBC North America Holdings Inc. since 2008. Former president and chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. News Corp. was a client of his when he was a banker at Goldman.
