Judge denies bond for Fla. imam on terror charge

A federal judge in Florida has denied bail for a Muslim cleric from Miami charged with aiding Pakistani terrorists.

U.S. District Judge Adalberto Jordan on Tuesday denied 76-year-old Hafiz Khan's latest request to be released from the Federal Detention Center. The judge says the prosecution's case is "particularly strong."

Khan is imam of the Flagler Mosque in Miami. He and five others were charged in May with conspiring to support the Pakistani Taliban. Those charged include his son, 24-year-old Izhar Khan, who is an imam in Broward County.

In his ruling, Jordan cited Khan's bank transactions and recorded phone conversations. He said that Khan "wishes harm upon this country."

Jordan delayed a decision on the son's bond request, saying he needs to hear more evidence before ruling.
