UK MP says doesn't have confirmation on Murdoch appearance

LONDON (Reuters) - The head of a British parliamentary committee said he does not have final confirmation that Rupert Murdoch, son James and Rebekah Brooks would attend a hearing to answer questions about the growing phone-hacking scandal that has shaken News Corp's global television and newspaper empire.

John Whittingdale, chairman of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport Committee, had earlier told BBC television that the three would attend the hearing next Tuesday.

But within minutes he cast doubt on that claim, saying there was "confusion" and blamed it on a misunderstanding of what a company spokesperson had said.

"It seems we haven't had final confirmation that all there will attend," he told the BBC. "I still hope that they will come."
