2 NY cops save distraught doughnut shop owner

Two police officers in western New York are credited with saving the distraught owner of a doughnut shop from harm after he doused himself with gasoline.

Officer Denny Wright tells the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester that he and Sgt. Jorge Perez were a few blocks away from the Dunkin' Donuts Wednesday morning when they received a report of a distraught man in the store's parking lot.

Wright says he recognized the man as a part-owner of the shop. The man had poured gasoline on himself and was holding a lighter.

Wright says the man told him he was having family and business problems.

Eventually the man handed Wright the lighter and gas can.

The man's name hasn't been released. He was taken to a Rochester hospital.
