NJ man convicted in brother's 1972 killing

A northern New Jersey man has been convicted of murdering his brother when both were youngsters in 1972.

Bergen County prosecutors said Joseph Barbarino was 15 years old when he plunged a knife into his brother Vincent after the 6-year-old spurned his sexual advances.

Another brother, Michael Barbarino, testified he tried to help Vincent but was overpowered by Joseph. Michael Barbarino was 4 at the time of the killing and said he kept it a secret for years.

Joseph Barbarino was tried as a juvenile because of his age at the time of the killing. He's serving a 50-year sentence for having sex with an underage female relative.

He could receive up to 20 years in prison on the murder conviction handed down Tuesday. Sentencing is scheduled for July 15.
