Pipe bombs found after La. man wrecks pickup truck

When a pickup truck crashed in southeastern Louisiana, authorities made a surprising discovery: 10 pipe bombs.

Trooper Bryan Zeringue said the one-vehicle rollover crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Monday.

As emergency crews were trying to right the truck, they noticed the devices. Zeringue said nine of the bombs were made with plastic pipe and one was made with galvanized metal pipe.

The driver was hospitalized with serious injuries. Authorities said he was a Louisiana resident in his 50s, but withheld his name. They also refused to speculate on what he intended to do with the bombs _ or to say if he had revealed that to investigators.

A bomb disposal team took the devices to an empty field and detonated them after burying them. Federal authorities are helping investigate.
