NEW YORK (Reuters) - Flooding on the Mississippi River continued to ease after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said Monday it closed the last bays on the Bonnet Carre spillway of the Mississippi River.

The Corps had opened 330 bays on the spillway at the peak of the flooding threat on the river and started closing bays on the spillway a week and a half ago.

"The river is still high but it's dropping. We still have crews doing inspections," said Army Crops public affairs officer Rachel Rodi.

The river is at 13.9 feet at a measurement post in New Orleans, Rodi added.

A bay was still open at the Morganza spillway, also on the Mississippi.

A total of 17 bays were opened on the Morganza and 16 of these were closed over the past several weeks, Rodi said.
