LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A California man has been arrested in the rape of a woman he hired as a maid through Craigslist, police said on Monday.
Michael Delgado, 27, is accused of raping the woman in his apartment in Fullerton, southeast of Los Angeles, on Friday after answering an ad she had posted in the classified ad website's "Maid" section.
Delgado allegedly raped and sexually assaulted the woman, who was not named by authorities, for over an hour before allowing her to leave, Fullerton Police spokesman Andrew Goodrich said in a written statement.
Goodrich said the victim asked a passerby to contact police, who took Delgado into custody.
He was booked on suspicion of rape, false imprisonment, rape with a foreign object and assault and was being held in Fullerton city jail pending filing of formal charges, Goodrich said.
"We want to remind everyone that they need to be extremely cautious when meeting people they don't know at their homes", Goodrich said. "This incident reminds us just how vulnerable we can all be at times."
