Probe clears officers in fatal Tucson shooting

The five SWAT officers who fatally shot a former Marine while serving a warrant in Tucson have been cleared of any wrongdoing.

The Pima County Regional SWAT team members were from four law enforcement agencies around the county.

An investigation by the county Attorney's Office came to the conclusion that the officers were justified in using deadly force last month against 26-year-old Jose Guerena.

Documents show the officers fired 71 shots at Guerena while serving a search warrant related to a drug-trafficking investigation.

An autopsy showed Guerena was struck 22 times _ mainly in his arms and legs.

The Arizona Daily Star says the investigation also shows the AR-15 rifle Guerena was holding at the time of the May 5 incident indicated he was pointing it at the officers.
