Report can't find cause of NJ Ferris wheel fall

Investigators say they don't know what caused an 11-year-old girl's deadly fall from a Ferris wheel on an amusement pier at the New Jersey shore.

The state Department of Community Affairs released a preliminary incident report Monday. It found no mechanical defects.

Abiah (uh-BY'-uh) Jones was alone in a gondola of the Giant Wheel at Morey's Piers in Wildwood on June 3 when she plunged 100 feet.

The report says a video camera captured part of the Pleasantville girl's fall but not the moment she fell.

The department says it's recommending operators require a minimum of two riders per gondola in the future.

Morey's Piers spokeswoman Lindsey Young tells The Press of Atlantic City the company is reviewing the report.

A date to reopen the ride hasn't been determined.
