MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) - A single-seat F-16 fighter jet from the Wisconsin National Guard crashed on Tuesday while on a routine training mission in central Wisconsin, but the pilot ejected safely, the National Guard said in a statement.

The pilot from the Madison, Wisconsin-based 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard was recovered in Adams County, Wisconsin, and was being evaluated, the National Guard said.

The F-16 went down Tuesday afternoon while doing a training flight from Volk Field and there were no reported injuries on the ground, Lieutenant Colonel Jackie Guthrie said in a telephone interview.

The National Guard has requested an Air Force team to investigate the cause of the accident.
