Nothing found in new NY serial killer probe search

Investigators say nothing was found in their latest search for possible remains on a barrier island south of New York's Long Island.

Police returned to the area on Tuesday, but only searched for about three hours before declaring they had turned up no new evidence.

State police say officers searched 11 specific locations near the Robert Moses Causeway on Tuesday. The highway is north of Ocean Parkway, where 10 sets of human remains have been discovered since December.

The latest search was prompted by FBI aerial surveillance photography of the area.

Police believe a serial killer may be responsible for the deaths of at least four prostitutes found in the area. Authorities suspect others also may have also left bodies along the remote parkway, going back at least a decade.
