Obama to speak at architecture award event

After several meetings at the White House, including one with the House Democratic Caucus, President Barack Obama will attend a prestigious awards event Thursday evening.

Obama will speak at the formal ceremony honoring the winner of 2011 Pritzker Architecture Prize at one of Washington's finest classical buildings, the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium.

This year's laureate is 58-year-old Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura. He will receive a $100,000 grant and a bronze medallion.

The prize takes its name from the Pritzker family, whose name is synonymous with Hyatt Hotels. The Hyatt Foundation of Chicago sponsors the prize.
