A soldier preparing to deploy to Iraq wanted to get married before he left, but his pregnant fiance was ordered to stay on bed rest at a Kentucky hospital.
So Pvt. Shawn Wentworth and Jennifer Paddock held the wedding on Saturday at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. The infantryman is scheduled to leave for Iraq on Sunday.
The couple wanted to get married in May, but about 23 weeks into a difficult pregnancy, Paddock's doctor ordered her to stay in the hospital on bed rest.
Paddock told The Courier-Journal that a hospital chaplain mentioned getting married at the hospital and they liked the idea. Workers decorated with balloons, as well as white table cloth and paper bells. The couple celebrated the brief ceremony with a toast of sparkling grape juice.
