10 finalists vie for championship in geography bee

Ten students have reached the championship round of the National Geographic Bee in Washington from a field of 5 million students across the country.

The preliminary rounds Tuesday narrowed the field from 54 contestants to just 10 for the finals Wednesday.

The winner will receive a $25,000 scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

The top 10 finalists win $500. They are Alex Kimn of South Dakota, Tine Valencic of Texas, Nilai Sarda of Georgia, Kevin Mi of Indiana, Luke Hellum of Arizona, Tuvya Bergson-Michelson of California, Karthik Karnik of Massachusetts, Anthony Cheng of Utah, Andrew Hull of Alaska and Stefan Petrovic of Kansas.

Alex Trebek from TV's "Jeopardy!" hosts the final rounds.

The bee is taped for broadcast on National Geographic Channel and public TV stations.
