Stepdad faces murder charge in teen's swamp death

A man whose teenage stepson froze to death during a hog-hunting trip in a rugged southern Georgia swamp faces murder and other charges.

The Florida Times-Union reports that 15-year-old Daniel Clark Head died in the Buffalo Swamp in March 2010.

Authorities say his 40-year-old stepfather Brian Gale told investigators they became lost in the woods. He says Daniel had become too weak to walk and he could no longer carry him. He says he left him and went for help.

The indictment says Gale acted with "reckless disregard" for the teen's life by leaving him alone in the swamp at night when he was weak and fatigued and didn't have adequate clothing to survive. He had on a shirt, jacket, long pants and hip waders.

It was unclear if Gale has an attorney.
