NC worker dies in fall from Ferris wheel

Authorities in central North Carolina say a worker has died and another was critically injured after they fell while dismantling a Ferris wheel at the close of a six-day carnival.

Investigators were called to the scene in Greensboro shortly before 2 a.m. Monday.

The workers were part of the James H. Drew Exposition crew that provided 25 rides for the carnival, which began May 10 and ended Sunday afternoon.

The carnival was sponsored by the Greensboro Youth Council in the parking lot of the Greensboro Coliseum. The annual event typically attracts about 50,000 visitors.

The names of the men have been withheld until relatives could be notified.
