Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has toured an aid and donation center in a neighborhood of her home city of Birmingham that was heavily damaged by tornadoes.
Rice said Tuesday evening that she was deeply moved by the damage but also expressed confidence that Alabamans are resilient enough to pull through.
She recalled driving through the neighborhood of hard-hit Pratt City as a young girl. She called last week's tornadoes a "very human tragedy."
Rice was born and raised in Birmingham and still has family there. She was secretary of state under former Republican President George W. Bush.
