AP images form intricate tapestry of festive day

Cover your ears, little one. The grown-ups are kissing.

A picture of Grace van Cutsem, the 3-year-old bridesmaid covering her ears as Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge kissed on the Buckingham Palace balcony, is one of hundreds of images of the royal wedding day captured by Associated Press photographers who blanketed London during Friday's festivities.

From the wedding ring to the crowds on the Mall, AP photographers were well-placed to get all the big moments, as well as some subtler ones _ guests dressed in fancy hats, a knowing look from Kate to William, and the image that captured the prince's little godchild shielding her ears from the noise as tens of thousands cheered a royal kiss.

Some pictures illustrated the scope of the event, like the outdoor shots of the crowds, and the more orderly images of wedding guests watching the bride and groom walking down the aisle.

Other images seized on a detail, like the pinkish hands of the bride and groom as the ring was placed on her finger.

Each image on its own tells an elaborate story. Together, they form an intricate tapestry depicting a colorful, festive day in London.
