Saturday is 2nd national drug take-back day

Prescription drug abuse has become so prevalent that the Drug Enforcement Administration is setting aside Saturday as a day when all Americans can do something about it.

The DEA is urging the public to clean out medicine cabinets of leftover prescription drugs and deliver them to one of 5,300 collection sites around the country in the second National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

During the DEA's first such initiative last September, the public turned in more than 121 tons of prescription drugs at nearly 4,100 locations.

The federal government says 7 million people in 2009 abused prescription drugs within the previous month, up from 6.2 million in 2008.
