Celebrity pathologist Cyril Wecht says he wants his old job back in Pennsylvania.
The 80-year-old physician resigned as Allegheny County Medical Examiner in January 2006 after he was indicted on federal corruption charges. He was accused of using his county staff to do work for his lucrative private practice. Wecht's 2008 trial ended with a deadlocked jury, and prosecutors dropped the charges months later.
Wecht gained fame by inquiring into the deaths of well-known figures including Elvis Presley, JonBenet Ramsey and Vincent Foster.
County Executive Dan Onorato (ahn-oh-RAH'-toh) must name a medical examiner because Dr. Karl Williams' five-year term expired in December.
Wecht tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review he's still busy in private practice _ doing 340 autopsies last year _ and wants the job.
Onorato says he's thinking about it.
