Navy commander removed from job in Arabian Sea

The commander of a San Diego-based Navy destroyer squadron has been removed from his job amid allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship.

The Navy says Capt. Donald Hornbeck was removed on Saturday from his post as commander of Destroyer Squadron 1 in the Arabian Sea. He's been assigned to Third Fleet headquarters at Point Loma while the allegations are investigated.

A Third Fleet spokeswoman tells the San Diego Union-Tribune that she doesn't have further information about the allegations.

The deputy commander has taken over the destroyer squadron, which is deployed with the strike group of the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson.
