A U.S. senator from Ohio is challenging Veterans Affairs officials to ensure there is no repeat of problems at the Dayton VA hospital that led to testing hundreds of veterans for potential infections.
Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown held a Senate Veterans Affairs committee hearing Tuesday at the hospital, where VA investigators say a dentist failed for years to change gloves or sterilize instruments between patients.
Brown says that must never happen again. He says veterans are entitled to top-quality medical care and should feel confident they're getting it.
Veterans officials told Brown they're improving communication at the Dayton hospital and improving hygiene training and patient feedback.
The Dayton medical center is just the latest VA hospital to have problems with sterilization practices.
