Petersen Automotive Museum in LA gets $100M

The Petersen Automotive Museum has received a $100 million gift to enhance the Los Angeles transportation shrine and expand its collection.

The donation announced Monday includes an unrestricted financial gift, a matching challenge, the 300,000-square-foot museum building on Wilshire Boulevard, and Robert Petersen's car collection.

The donation was made by Peterson's widow Margie Petersen and the Margie & Robert E. Petersen Foundation.

The museum, which opened in 1994, hosts 150,000 visitors a year.

Robert Petersen, the publishing magnate whose Hot Rod and Motor Trend magazines helped shape America's car culture, was 80 when he died in 2007.
