Melanie Sill, the editor and senior vice president of The Sacramento Bee, is leaving her post after four years of steering the newspaper through industry challenges brought on by the recession and the changing habits of news customers.
The newspaper announced Monday that Sill has accepted a six-month position at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism as an executive in residence. May 6 will be her last day at the newspaper.
She will be replaced by Managing Editor Joyce Terhaar, who has been with the newspaper more than two decades.
Sill, 52, came to the Bee in 2007 from Raleigh, N.C., where she was executive editor of the News & Observer. That paper and the Bee are owned by The McClatchy Co., based in Sacramento.
