A 40-acre wildfire in the foothills southwest of Denver that forced the evacuation of more than 30 homes was one of three fires reported within minutes of each other.
Jefferson County sheriff's officials Friday called the fires along U.S. 285 suspicious and were asking the public's help in finding the cause. Crews were able to quickly contain two of the three fires that were reported Thursday afternoon within 16 minutes of each other.
No homes have been destroyed by the fire still burning near Conifer about 25 miles from Denver. The fire is 50 percent contained and crews hope to have it fully contained by Friday night, despite wind gusts of up to 50 mph in the area.
Evacuation orders were lifted Friday afternoon, allowing residents to return home.
