NY police seek Russian man in double stabbing

An international fugitive was caught on security camera videotape hauling two suitcases out of the Brooklyn apartment building where two women _ his live-in girlfriend and her adult daughter _ were later found stabbed to death, police said Tuesday.

New York Police Department investigators were seeking to question the Russian immigrant, Nikolai Rakossi, in the slayings.

The security camera showed Rakossi, 56, leaving the building at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Police spokesman Paul Browne said investigators believe the suspect went directly to Kennedy Airport with a one-way ticket to Moscow. His Aeroflot flight departed at 7 p.m. and arrived in Russia at 12:30 p.m. Monday.

The bodies of 56-year-old Tatyana Prikhodko and her 27-year-old daughter, Larisa, weren't discovered until five hours after Rakossi's plane took off. The daughter had been reported missing by the father of her young son before police made the gruesome discovery in the mother's sixth-floor apartment.

The women, both nurses, were stabbed multiple times in the face, neck and torso. Two knifes believed to have been used in the assault were recovered.

The NYPD said it was working with the State Department and Russian authorities to determine Rakossi's whereabouts.

The motive for the slayings was unclear. Investigators have theorized that the daughter, who lived in a separate apartment in the same building, may have been killed after walking in on the attack on her mother.
