Michelle Obama plane aborts landing near Washington

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A jetliner carrying first lady Michelle Obama got too close to another plane flying a few miles ahead and had to delay landing at a military base outside Washington, U.S. aviation officials said on Tuesday.

A Federal Aviation Administration official said Mrs. Obama's government-owned aircraft was approaching Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on Monday when controllers told the pilot to abort its approach to allow the cargo plane to land first.

The first lady's plane landed safely.
