BOSTON (Reuters) - A Boston area mall was evacuated on Tuesday after police received a report of a man inside who appeared to be carrying a rifle, officials said.
Massachusetts State Police and local authorities are searching the Burlington Mall and surrounding areas, state police said.
The initial report came in to Burlington police around 10 a.m. local time. State police said in a statement they "have not yet confirmed the accuracy of the initial report but obviously are treating it as legitimate."
State police said the possible suspect was described as a "short white male with a gray shirt and a backpack carrying what appeared to be a rifle," a statement said.
Burlington is a suburb located roughly 15 miles north of Boston.
