Democrats looking to defend President Barack Obama's massive health care overhaul are announcing an effort to highlight what they say are the benefits of the law and to lobby Congress to defend it.
Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and former Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle were set Thursday to announce the Know Your Care campaign to promote aspects of the 2010 law. A sister organization, Protect Your Care, would work to block Republican efforts to repeal the law.
The groups are being advised by Paul Tewes, who led Obama's successful 2008 caucus campaign in Iowa, and veteran Democratic media consultant Jim Margolis. They are the latest organizations formed to defend the health care law, which Republicans loathe and hope will help stymie Obama's re-election bid.
