Authorities in Ohio say a police cruiser struck a woman in a motorized wheelchair as she was crossing a busy street.
Dayton police say the 50-year-old woman was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Her wheelchair could be seen lying on its side in the street after the accident Tuesday afternoon.
Police Sgt. John Sullivan tells multiple media outlets that it happened as the officer was on his way to another, non-emergency crash without lights or sirens on.
The cruiser's airbag deployed when it hit the wheelchair. The officer declined to go to the hospital.
Sullivan says the police department has launched an investigation.
