A spokesman for the Washington State Patrol says a crowd of about 400 people protesting proposed budget cuts at the state Capitol converged on the governor's office after several hours of loud demonstrations.
Patrol spokesman Robert Calkins says a scuffle broke out Thursday as officers tried to keep protesters from entering Gov. Chris Gregoire's office at around 2:30 p.m. He says one man was arrested after attacking two troopers and 12 others were arrested and cited for disorderly conduct.
Calkins says the troopers weren't seriously injured. He says the man accused in the attack will be booked on two counts of assault.
Thursday marked the third day labor groups gathered in Olympia to protest spending cuts aimed at closing Washington's looming $5 billion deficit.
