SANAA (Reuters) - At least 12 protesters were killed when security forces opened fire in the Yemeni city of Taiz, south of the capital, on Monday, a medical source said.

A second hospital source said hundreds had been wounded in the clashes, most suffering from tear gas inhalation. Thirty had been wounded by gunfire and 16 of them were in critical condition, he said.

In the port city of Hudaida, armed men in civilian clothes opened fire on protesters, witnesses said. Fifty people had been wounded, most by tear gas, a medical source there said.
