CHICAGO (Reuters) - Two people were killed on Wednesday when a small plane crashed in eastern Kentucky, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the twin-engine Cessna 310, registered to an Indiana aviation company, crashed at about 12:50 p.m. Eastern time as it approached the Pike County Regional Airport "under unknown circumstances," killing both people on board.

The plane's point of departure was not immediately known. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
