NPR halts search for news chief until CEO hired

National Public Radio is suspending its search for a top news manager while its board searches for a new chief executive to lead the operation.

Interim CEO Joyce Slocum told the staff on Monday that she decided to halt the search because the next CEO should help make the selection.

Ellen Weiss was forced to resign from the news post in January over her role in the firing of news analyst Juan Williams.

NPR also has lost its CEO and its top news and fundraising executives this year.

CEO Vivian Schiller was forced to resign after conservative activist James O'Keefe posted a video portraying NPR's chief fundraiser complaining about the tea party's influence on the Republican Party. Fundraiser Ron Schiller, who is not related, also resigned.
