Congressman Connie Mack IV says he will soon announce whether he plans to run for the U.S. Senate seat once held by his father.
Mack will make his announcement on the old Lee County courthouse steps at 10 a.m. Friday in Fort Myers.
Indications are he will seek the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, who won the seat held by Mack's father, Connie Mack III. The elder Mack retired from the Senate in 2001.
Congressman Mack's political website features a video attacking Nelson for his ties to President Barack Obama and criticizing him for being liberal.
State Senate President Mike Haridopolos also is seeking the nomination. Meanwhile, former state Rep. Adam Hasner has formed a Senate exploratory committee.
