President Barack Obama and his British and French counterparts want Libya to comply immediately with a U.N. Security Council resolution that creates a no-fly zone to protect civilians from attacks by Moammar Gadhafi's forces.

The White House says Obama telephoned British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicolas Sarkozy Thursday evening after the Security Council vote. The vote came hours after Gadhafi vowed to crush the rebellion against his nearly 42-year rule with a final assault on the last opposition holdout in the eastern city of Benghazi.

Obama, Cameron and Sarkozy agreed that Libya must immediately comply with all terms of the U.N. resolution and that violence against the Libyan people must come to an end.
