Former Maine prosecutor sentenced for child porn

Maine's former top drug prosecutor is going to prison for 16 years following his conviction on charges of possessing child pornography.

U.S. District Judge John Woodcock imposed the sentence Thursday on James Cameron, who was convicted last summer of 13 counts of transporting, receiving and possessing child pornography.

The porn was discovered on computers seized from Cameron's Hallowell home in December 2007. At the time, he was serving as an assistant attorney general in Maine.

Prosecutors say the judge concluded there were 600 child pornography images on his computers depicting sadistic and violent conduct involving children.

Cameron, who's 48, has been in custody since his conviction. The defense plans to appeal.

Cameron's attorney has said the government failed to prove it was Cameron who sent, received or possessed the images.
