Obama discusses Libya options with Turkish leader

President Barack Obama is consulting with world leaders on possible steps to deal with the violence in Libya, speaking Friday morning with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan (REH'-jehp TY'-ihp UR'-doh-wahn).

The White House says Obama and Erdogan both expressed deep concern about the Libyan government's "unacceptable" use of violence against the people. They discussed ways for the international community to immediately respond in order to hold the Libyan government accountable for its actions.

Obama has also talked with leaders from the United Kingdom, France and Italy ahead of Friday's meetings of the U.N. Security Council and Human Rights Council. The U.S. is backing an effort to expel Libya from the human rights body and is readying a larger sanctions package against Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
