Vermont state police say a man conned his way into an elderly couple's home by saying he was cold and beat them with a tire iron but they fought him off and chased him away.
Police say it happened Tuesday night in Lincoln, a tiny town about an hour's drive southwest of Montpelier.
They say the man was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt when he claimed he needed to be let into the home of 84-year-old Floyd Hall and 77-year-old Betty Hall.
Police say the Halls suffered minor injuries during the 200-pound man's tire iron assault but didn't need to be hospitalized.
They say the man drove away. They're looking for him.
The man could face charges of burglary and assault.
