An elderly Connecticut man accused of shooting a hospital nurse earlier this year has died a week after suffering a stroke.
One of 86-year-old Stanley Lupienski's nephews tells the News-Times of Danbury that his uncle died Sunday at Hartford Hospital, where he had been for the past week since suffering a stroke at Whiting Forensic Institute in Middletown.
Authorities say Lupienski, of Brookfield, shot a nurse three times at Danbury Hospital on March 2. He faced charges including first-degree assault and reckless endangerment but was ruled incompetent to stand trial last month because he suffered from advanced dementia.
Investigators think he smuggled a handgun into the hospital when he was admitted the day before after being found disoriented in a parking lot.
