An Ohio teen who pleaded guilty to several charges in the theft and beating death of a baby alpaca has been sentenced to 20 months in prison.
His lawyer had said 18-year-old Nicholas Reynolds struck the llama-like animal to kill it and put it out of its misery. The JournalNews of Hamilton reports Reynolds told a Butler County judge at Thursday's sentencing he thought he was doing the right thing because the 3-month old alpaca was suffering after being taken from a farm in southwest Ohio in January.
Reynolds also apologized to farm owner Jeff Pergram, who told Reynolds he needs to think before he reacts.
Reynolds could have received up to 10 1/2 years in prison on the charges, which included breaking and entering and grand theft.
Two others are awaiting trial in the case.
