A 19-year-old man who drove a stolen car through the gates of Arizona's Luke Air Force Base during a police chase, leading a security guard to fatally shoot his passenger, has pleaded guilty to murder and assault.
Maricopa County prosecutors say Gabriel Aguilera pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 12.
Authorities say Aguilera was charged with murder because his 16-year-old passenger died during the course of a felony offense.
The two were shot by Air Force security officers on Feb. 22 after the stolen car went through a security gate at the Glendale base. The base trains Air Force pilots.
Authorities say Aguilera likely entered the military base by mistake as he tried to flee from law enforcement.
